Pear (triangle) body shape
The hip measures more than five percent above the bust, so the silhouette widens downward.
Also called triangle, spoon.

A worked example
Three measurements that produce a pear result, run through the calculator itself. The ratios below are its own output, so if a threshold changed and this example stopped producing this shape, the build would fail rather than the page quietly going out of date.
| Bust | 88 cm |
|---|---|
| Waist | 72 cm |
| Hip | 100 cm |
| Bust against hip | -12.0% |
|---|---|
| Waist against bust | 18.2% smaller |
| Waist against hip | 28.0% smaller |
| Waist definition | Straighter |
- Bust against hip. Within 5% either way counts as balanced. Yours is wider at the hip.
- Waist against bust. How far the waist draws in from the bust measurement.
- Waist against hip. How far the waist draws in from the hip measurement.
- Waist definition. A waist at least 25% smaller than both bust and hip is conventionally called defined. Yours draws in 18.2% at the narrower of the two.
Telling it apart from what it gets confused with
Pear or hourglass?
Whether bust and hip are in balance. An hourglass has them within five percent of each other; a pear does not. A waist that draws in sharply does not make a shape an hourglass if the bust and hip are far apart — both conditions have to hold.
What is worth knowing about it
The single most useful thing about this result is financial rather than stylistic. Buying separates in two different sizes is almost always cheaper than buying a dress that fits one half of you and paying to have the other half altered. Retailers sell dresses as one size because it is simpler to stock, not because bodies come that way.
The guidance about adding structure at the shoulder is real but often overstated. It works by putting more visual weight at the top of the outline, which is the same mechanism as volume at the temples on a face. It changes the impression and it changes no measurement, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
What it means for clothes
- Buying separates in two sizes is usually cheaper than altering a dress that fits one half of you.
- Detail, structure and lighter colour at the shoulder balances the visual weight of the hip.
- A-line and straight-leg cuts skim the widest point rather than gripping it.
All of this is about how garments hang, which is a question about cloth rather than about you. Sizing systems are drafted around assumptions, and a shape that ready-to-wear serves badly is a drafting assumption failing rather than a body failing to cooperate.
Measure rather than guess
The body shape calculator takes three tape measurements and shows every ratio and threshold behind the result. No weight, no BMI, no ideal, and nothing is uploaded — the arithmetic runs in your browser.
These categories come from pattern drafting rather than from anatomy: they describe where a garment needs room. They are not a taxonomy of people, they carry no health meaning, and nothing here scores or ranks anyone. Three circumferences cannot support a claim about health and this tool does not make one.
