Soft Summer

Neutral in temperature and muted in chroma — the least emphatic of the twelve on every axis.

The palette

Cool-neutral with low contrast and low saturation. Everything works better slightly greyed.

Metals. Brushed silver or matte white gold.

What works against you. High-saturation brights and stark black-and-white contrast, both of which overpower soft colouring.

Soft Summer or Soft Autumn?

The twelve-season system is six pairs. Each season shares its dominant characteristic with exactly one other, and the two differ on a single axis — which is where almost every misclassification happens.

Soft Autumn is the other softness-dominant season. Both are muted; the difference is which way the temperature leans. Soft Summer sits neutral or slightly cool, Soft Autumn mildly warm. Of the six pairs this is the closest, and a reading near the boundary could honestly go either way.

What is worth knowing about it

This is what our classifier returns when a complexion is medium in depth, neutral in temperature and muted in chroma — which is to say, when nothing about it is far enough from average to be decisive. Like the oval face shape, it is partly a residue rather than a positive finding.

That is not a lesser result. A colouring without a dominant characteristic has fewer hard constraints, and the practical meaning is that the palette is wide but shallow: many colours work moderately well and few work spectacularly. Reaching for the most saturated version of anything is the reliable way to get it wrong.

The rest of the Summer family

Every family has three members, each with a different dominant characteristic. Sharing a family means sharing a temperature direction; it does not mean the palettes are interchangeable.

How to find out whether this is your season

Not from a photograph taken under unknown lighting, which is what most online season quizzes amount to. The room's light changes measured skin hue by more than the difference between two adjacent seasons, so a colour reading is worthless unless something corrects for it first.

Our colour analysis tool white-balances against the whites of your eyes before measuring anything, and reports the three axes — temperature, depth and clarity — alongside the season they produce, so you can see which of them was decisive. Everything runs in your browser and the photo is never uploaded.

Seasonal colour analysis is a styling convention rather than a finding about anyone. What can be measured is the hue, lightness and chroma of your skin, hair and eyes; which colours anyone prefers to wear is a separate question and a matter of taste. Nothing here scores or ranks anyone's appearance.
